Tired of commercials interrupting the broadcast? Here’s a tip from listener Carl Holtman.
I wasn’t paying a lot of attention to the complaints from the chat room about the commercials during the Friday night live podcast on Livestream because I wasn’t getting them. However, I experienced the problem first hand when I used my wife’s laptop on a recent trip. I tried to catch the live podcast, only to be interrupted every 15 minutes with a dang commercial.
Anyway, I thought I would share what I was doing on my home computer to block the commercials. I use the Mozilla Firefox browser with several security add-ons. The NoScript extension is the add-on I use to block the commercials. NoScript for Firefox pre-emptively blocks malicious scripts and allows JavaScript, Java and other potentially dangerous content only from sites you trust. When I pull up livestream.com/cigar_radio, I have NoScript set to allow scripts from all sites except “liverail.com” and “tremormedia.com”.
There may be script blockers for Microsoft’s Internet Explorer, but I recommend Mozilla Firefox with NoScript. It’s easy to set up and use and you will quickly get the hang of surfing with NoScript protecting you from malicious scripts. For our use, watching the Dogwatch Cigar Radio podcast live on Livestream, just block Liverail and Tremormedia and you’re all set to watch commercial free.
