Nicaragua Cigar Trip Memories - January 2011, by Liz McDuffee

Bob and I just returned from an amazing cigar tourism trip to Nicaragua led by Colin Ganley of CigarTourism.com. Some things that stood out for me on the trip were being able to see in person what “hecho a mano” really meant: the unbelievably complicated and time consuming cigar making process that is totally accomplished by hand; the testing and quality control that goes into getting a good tobacco crop and blending a good smoke; the fact that some cigars were so complex that they could only be rolled by a single artisan in the factory; the passion and commitment each cigar maker had for creating a great cigar and their willingness to share their passion and knowledge with us; and, of course, the opportunity to try so many cigars that I had never smoked before.

Gables Hispanic Cultural Festival

September 25th Event: Join Bob and Liz at the inaugural Gables Hispanic Cultural Festival featuring hispanic music, food, guayaberas, and arts and crafts. Enjoy the art of one of Cuba's greatest artists, the late Maestro Cundo Bermudez. Bob will report on cigar happenings from the "Smokin' in the Gables VIP Lounge" where more than 30 of the top cigar manufacturers will be showcasing their cigars. While there is no charge to attend the festival, access to the VIP Lounge is by ticket only. A portion of the ticket proceeds will go to local non-profit organizations focused on arts, cultural and children's initiatives. ProCigar Festival 2011

It's not too early to be thinking about the 2011 ProCigar Festival. This event is a wonderful opportunity for cigar enthusiasts. Santiago, DR…20 February…This has been a superb rendition what Pro Cigar created in 2008. That was the year of the first Pro Cigar Festival. Since then Catherine Llibre and her associates at Pro Cigar have been adding new aspects and tweaking the formula. But, while the excitement of different aspects of the Festival never fails to enthrall; their first effort, in ’08 was spot on. It is worth remembering that these women have full-time jobs at TabaDom Holdings (Davidoff).
