DogWatch Cigar Radio Podcast Episode #345 - Lighters, Cigars and Pipes, Oh My!

This week Marcian Knowles has a pipe tobacco question for Bob and Dale.  The herf line has three callers:  Roger from Texas wants a recommendation for a table top lighter; Angry Bill checks in from the mobile law dog lounge to let us know about some cigars that listeners might like to try; and a listener from Pennsylvania talks about Ashton cigars.  There are two contests this month:  1) Enter Craig Schneider's September Esencia Contest by sending in your review or "experience" of smoking an Esencia cigar to theshow@cigarmedia.tv.  (Be sure to type "Esencia" on the subject line.)  On Craig's next appearance on DogWatch (Show #348 on October 14th), he will be awarding some cigars from his personal humidor for the best submission (as he judges it).  2) You can also enter September's Palio Cutter Contest by sending a photo of you or your friends enjoying a cigar to theshow@cigarmedia.tv.   (Don't forget to include your mailing address and type "Palio" on the subject line.)     The featured 'Cigar of the Week' is the San Lotano Oval.  The  'What's My Band?' cigar is the Ilusione mj12 provided by Liz.

Check out the live show!  Go to http://www.cigarmedia.tv/live/ where the show is broadcast live most Friday evenings at 9 PM EST.

Cigar of the Week  - San Lotano Oval - by AJ Fernandez.

    • Wrapper: Habano 2000 Wrapper (4+ years)
    • Binder: Nicaragua
    • Filler: Nicaragua / Honduras (AJ Fernandez Secret Filler)

What else have you been smokin' Dale?

Indian Tabac Super Fuerte Robusto - 5 x 50  A cigar I have smoked for years, this is one of the sticks that put Rocky Patel on the map. Made in Honduras with Nicaraguan, Honduran and Costa Rican tobaccos wrapped in a Corojo wrapper, this blend provides creamy rich flavors - coffee, chocolate and nutty, with some tangy exotic spices.

Don Lino Africa Gordito Torpedo - 4” x 58  Tobaccos from Honduras, Dominican Republic, Nicaragua and Africa combine for a bold smoke in a short “me too” size. Smooth and complex, but full of hearty flavors

What else have you been smokin' Bob?

La Sirena - The Prince : 5x50 version of the cigar launched in late 2010 by Miami Cigar & Co, produced by My Father Cigars.  Utilizes Nicaraguan Criollo 98 and Nicaraguan Corojo 96 in the filler plus a dual Nicaraguan Habano and Nicaraguan Corojo binder wrapped in a hearty Connecticut Broadleaf Maduro wrapper.  A hearty and sumptuous smoke with coffee, leather and a savory sweetness.  I like them so  much I bought a box. Oh and you have got to love that band that covers at least a third of this size, I remove it before lighting to avoid flash fires.  La Sirena is offered in the following 5 sizes:

    • Sea Sprite – 5.5 x 42
    • The Prince – 5 x 50
    • Divine – 5.5 x 52 (figurado)
    • King Poseidon – 6 x 60
    • Trident – 7 x 50

Padron 1964 Anniversary -  When you want a full flavored cigar that will transport you back in time to a simpler place where men smoked cigars, dogs were allowed in the saloon and gas cost less than a dollar a gallon, grab yourself one of these.  This is the most expensive cigar I smoke regularly, not daily but a couple a month because this cigar is perfectly balanced, well aged and smooth flavored.  Everything a guilty pleasure should be without the guilt.  Choose your pleasure in maduro or natural wrapper.

La Reloba Sumatra - Another product of My Father Cigars.  This is still one of my favorites and I have decided I prefer the Sumatra to the Habano.  Medium to full bodied these cigars are affordable and flavorful.  The Sumatra has a woody-leather flavor profile that balances out nicely with the savory accents and sweetness of this cigar.

What's My Band? - The Ilusione mj12 provided by Liz.

Overall, Bob was not particularly fond of this cigar.  He felt that the flavors were OK but that there was no particular balance.

Palio Cutter Contest: The August winner of a classic black Palio cutter is Gregory Dunn from Massachusettes.  For September's contest, we are looking for photos of you and your friends enjoying cigars.  Send your entry to theshow@cigarmedia.tv.  Please include your mailing address with your entry and type "Palio" on the subject line.

Do you have a suggestion for the unbanded cigar of the week?  Every week Bob and Dale include an “unbanded cigar” segment in their show in which they smoke a cigar without any markings and give their honest opinions.  Bob then opens a sealed envelope and discovers the cigar’s name and manufacturer.  If you have suggestions for the "What's My Band?" segment, please send them to liz@cigarmedia.tv.

Do you have a Cigar Review?  If you call and leave a cigar review on the herf line and it is played on the show, you will receive a DogWatch Cigar Radio patch! You can reach the Herfline at 321-594-4373 - or cigar.radio on Skype. You can also send email to theshow@cigarmedia.tv.

Music provided by the Figurados from their new album, "Lesson Two," and The Surfonics

Please visit our sponsors and let them know you heard about them from DogWatch!
