DogWatch Cigar Radio Podcast Episode #308
01-8-2011 Bob and Dale answer questions from listeners Mark Franks, Nelson Pidgeon, Walter Cyran and Brian Fox. Liz interviews Michael Herklots, General Manager of Davidoff of Geneva, New York on this week's "What's hot? What's not? What's next?" segment.
Toleton giveaway! In two weeks (on show #310), Bob will be smoking a La Tradicion Cubana Toleton, a unique cigar presented to him by Luis Sanchez. He will also give one away, complements of Luis, during the show. The winner will be selected from Palio cutter contest entrants who have submitted their entry by January 20th.
Cigar of the Week - La Palina Alison from the Family Series.
Size: 6 x 52 - The “Alison” is dedicated to Bill’s wife, Alison Van Metre Paley, whose support and encouragement have made La Palina’s revival possible.
The Family Series
Wrapper: Ecuador or Costa Rica
Binder: Costa Rica
Filler: Honduras and Nicaragua
The Family Series is exquisitely constructed and beautifully presented. The Babe and Pasha are wrapped with a delicately flavored Costa Rican capa. This mild-to-medium bodied blend is well balanced with a light and creamy taste that has a hint of both spice and sweetness on the finish.
The Alison and Little Bill have the added intensity of an Ecuadorian wrapper that is perfumed and velvety. The naturally fermented, aged ligero filler is a highlight of this blend, creating a medium-bodied smoke with smooth, spicy notes.
Dark Side - - LA FLOR DE CANO PETIT CORONAS.
What else have you been smokin' Dale?
EP Carrillo Toro - I’m still enchanted by this blend that has some sweetness, some spice, some earthy components and a great pedigree.
Elogio LSV Churchill - Some of Bob’s “churchill fever” must have worn off on me. I’ve been smoking through a box of of these and digging on the wonderful Nica flavors - complex, balanced & smooth!
Cuchillos Cubanos 42 - A great little value cigar with plenty of bold flavors. Keep a tooth pick handy for two reasons - first to nub it with, then to get the small tobacco bits out of your teeth.
Montecristo White Toro - A surprisingly good mild-medium bodied smoke! Works well for me as a morning cigar with cedar, nuts, coffee and grain flavors that are well balanced.
Montecristo Vintage 1999 Toro - A real dud of a cigar - burned poorly, not much flavor and what flavors I got I didn’t like.
Liga Privada T52 Toro - Still in my regular rotation, the T52 is so good it just deserves mentioning every few weeks!
What's My Band? - #944, Alec Bradley Prensado Churchill 7x49.
December Palio Cutter Contest Winner: Bryan Wolters from Menasha, Wisconsin won the Burl Palio Cutter. Enter the January contest now to win a black Palio Cutter.

Do you have a suggestion for the unbanded cigar of the week? Every week Bob and Dale include an “unbanded cigar” segment in their show in which they smoke a cigar without any markings and give their honest opinions. Bob then opens a sealed envelope and discovers the cigar’s name and manufacturer. If you have suggestions for the "What's My Band?" segment, please send them to liz@cigarmedia.tv.
Thanks to Michael Howe for bumpers and special effects in this show.
