DogWatch Cigar Radio Episode # 296

Cigar of the Week - Esteban Carreras 187
The 187 is a Nicaraguan puro, made in Esteli for Craig Cunningham by AJ Fernandez. Released in 2010 & only avail currently in a toro 6x50 and a torpedo 6.75x52. MSRP is $5.50 & $6.00. Scheduled for release later this year is a 6x46 (yea!) and a 60 ring version for those who just have to have the mega stick.

What else have you been smokin' - Dale

Four more from the Twitter Herf bag at IPCPR;<br />

Viaje Fifty/Fifty Red No. 1, 5 5/8" x 46 - 'Viaje' is Spanish for Journey, and the Fifty/Fifty Red is the next leg on the journey for Andre and the gang. The blend is a two-fer, with two distinct blends, combined to provide two flavor profiles in one cigar. The construction takes considerable time as it also has a double binder. The Red label 50/50 came out in 2010, following the Black label in 2009. The Red is targeted to be more med-full in strength, while the Black is a full on powerhouse. A Nicaraguan puro with an oily maduro Corojo '99 wrapper & pigtail cap, the Red's flavors are rich & slightly sweet in the first half with some nice nutmeg & meaty core flavors, transitioning to bold & spicy in the last half. Not a completely different cigar, but definitely a serious complexity change. MSRP about $9 & worth every penny. Definitely more to my liking than the Oro or Platino lines, and in the running for the best new cigar from this year's IPCPR!

CAO LX2 Gordo, 6" x 60  -  Domincan & Nicaraguan ligero fillers in a dark maduro Nic wrapper. Lots of leather, coffee and earthy tones. One of the few large ring cigars that I feel highlights the blend better than the smaller ring versions. Still,....too big for me.

We the People, Corona - A very nice cigar made by El Titan de Bronze for Bidwell cigars, We the People was introduced in 2009 and is packaged in a patriotic fervor - the band and box harken back to the founding of the US and the signing of the Constitution. Wrapped in a light Connecticut leaf and mild-med in body & strength, it has sweet grass and toasted nut flavors that go great with morning coffee.

Augusto Reyes Signature - Sour, flat and very disappointing.

What else you been smokin' - Bob

La Carolina - From Cuban Crafters.  A much better smoke than I anticipated

Alec Bradley MAXX Connecticut - 56 rg with pleasant creamy smoke and wonderful flavors of nuts and leather.  A very nice smoke.

Arturo Fuente Gran Reserva - an exceptional cigar in a Churchill size that reminds us that it does not have to be new to be good.  Classic aged tobacco flavors, excellent burn and pure pleasure to smoke.

    Dark Side -  Trinidad Reyes
